By now most people have seen the video of the crooked Baltimore cop, Officer Richard Pinheiro, planting drugs at the scene of an arrest. If you haven’t, I’ll save you the frustrating details and provide an overview: A Baltimore officer makes an arrest, “searches” for drugs in a nearby lot, and miraculously finds a bag of pills in a pile of trash. What Officer Pinheiro doesn’t realize is that upon activating his body camera it records the preceding 30 seconds which, in this instance, shows him planting those drugs as two fellow officers look on.
Instead of firing the officer, or better yet, charging him with possession of an illegal substance, the department suspended him and placed the onlookers on administrative duty. To add insult to injury, as the defendant sat in jail unable to post bail from January until July, when the video was released, state prosecutors still used officer Pinheiro as a witness in other cases without disclosing his misconduct.
